Suite à l’article publié le 08/02/2006 sur l’oasis de Mrah Lahouar, voici un deuxième illustrant la participation active de deux autres ONGs du Sud Tunisien au développement durable des oasis tunisiennes:De nombreuses ONGs ont initié des activités dans les oasis de Tunisie dans la perspective d’un développement durable dans ces écosystèmes fragiles.

Certaines d’entre elles ont traité les questions de préservation de la biodiversité et de la protection des ressources en sol avec pour objectif principal l’amélioration des revenus des agriculteurs dans les oasis.

C’est le cas de l’Association de Sauvegarde de la Médina de Gafsa (ASM Gafsa) et de l’association de Sauvegarde de l’oasis de Chénini (ASOC).L’ ASM Gafsa est en train de mettre en œuvre un projet intitulé « Amélioration de la qualité des sols par le compostage des matières vertes de l’oasis pour préserver les écosystèmes oasiens : Cas de l’oasis traditionnelle de Gafsa » dont une des composantes a porté sur le nettoyage de l’oasis, la confection d’un compost naturel et son utilisation pour la préservation et le développement de la biodiversité locale avec l’implication des agriculteurs.L’ASOC de son côté, a réalisé un projet intitulé « Protection des ressources génétiques et gestion intégrée de l’oasis de Chénini » dont les composantes portent sur la création d’un jardin de la biodiversité, le compostage des déchets des palmiers et son utilisation par les agriculteurs de l’oasis, le développement d’une pépinière de production des espèces locales d’arbres fruitiers (grenadier, pêchers…)Ces ONGs ont bénéficié du soutien financier du Programme de Micro Financements du Fonds pour l’Environnement Mondial et de partenaires locaux dont les commissariats régionaux au développement agricole et les municipalités de Gafsa et de Chénini.- Cet article nous a été gracieusement proposé par Mr. Abdelkader Baouendi - (Biographie)

NGOs take part in the sustainable development of Tunisia’s oasesFollowing the article published on 08/02/2006 on the oasis of Mrah Lahouar, here is a second one illustrating the active participation of two other NGOs from the Tunisian South in the sustainable development of Tunisian oases:Many NGOs initiated actions in the oases of Tunisia aiming for a sustainable development of these fragile ecosystems. Some of them targeted the issues of biodiversity and soil protection with one main objective: improving farmers’ income in the oases.

It is the case of ASM Gafsa -Association de Sauvegarde de la Médina de Gafsa- (Society for the Preservation of the Medina of Gafsa) and ASOC-Association de Sauvegarde de l’oasis de Chénini - (Society for the Preservation of the Oasis of Chenini).

The ASM Gafsa is implementing a project entitled “Improvement of soil’s quality through composting the oasis’ green materials in order to preserve the oasis ecosystems: Case of the traditional oasis of Gafsa”. Relying actively on the farmer’s involvement, the project consisted in cleaning the oasis and producing natural compost to be used for the preservation and development of local biodiversity.

The ASOC on the other hand, carried out a project entitled “Genetic resources protection and integrated management in the oasis of Chenini”. The project’s components included the creation of a biodiversity garden, the composting of palm tree waste and its use by farmers, and the development of a nursery of local species of fruit trees (pomegranate, peach trees…).

These NGOs benefited from the financial support by the Small Grants Program of the Global Environmental Fund and local partners including the regional office for agricultural development and the municipalities of Gafsa and Chenini.
